Dear Readers,
On September 18, the Broadway revival of A.R. Gurney's poignant Love Letters celebrates its official opening night at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. In honor of the show's return to the Great White Way, Broadway.com resident artist Justin "Squigs" Robertson penned this sketch of the production's first pair of stars: Mia Farrow and Tony winner Brian Dennehy. You can catch Squigs in person on September 21 at his table at the 2014 Broadway Flea Market.
As it turns out, the portrait also showcases the play’s entire set: a single table, at which the duo reads aloud an enitre lifetime of letters between the rebellious Melissa Gardner and the straight-arrow Andrew Makepeace Ladd III.
Broadway.com wishes Farrow and Dennehy a happy Broadway opening. Hope they remember their blocking?
Love,
Broadway.com
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home.
